Joseph D. "J.D." Chachere, 92, passed away quietly in his sleep on August 7th. J.D. was born in Opelousas, Louisiana, November 14, 1924, to Donald and Leonie Barry Chachere. He graduated from Opelousas High School in 1941 as valedictorian of his class. He spent his first year of college at SLI in Lafayette and joined the Navy in 1942. During his years of service he attended Annapolis and Georgia Tech. After WWII, he completed his last year of college at LSU, receiving a bachelor of science in Chemical Engineering. Joseph D. "J.D." Chachere, 92, passed away quietly in his sleep on August 7th. J.D. was born in Opelousas, Louisiana, November 14, 1924, to Donald and Leonie Barry Chachere. He graduated from Opelousas High School in 1941 as valedictorian of his class. He spent his first year of college at SLI in Lafayette and joined the Navy in 1942. During his years of service he attended Annapolis and Georgia Tech. After WWII, he completed his last year of college at LSU, receiving a bachelor of science in Chemical Engineering. J.D. went to work for Gulf Oil in 1947 at the refinery in Port Arthur, Texas. He became supervisor of Planning and Economics at the refinery in 1961. In 1974 he was transferred to the Houston main office as a manager of Planning and Economics in the Crude Oil Department. J.D. retired from Gulf in 1983 after 36 years of service. During retirement he volunteered as a tax preparer at AARP and traveled with his wife Eldora. They attended St. Ignatius Catholic Church for 25 years, where he served as a greeter and usher.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Eldora Begnaud Chachere: two children, Bryan Chachere of Long Beach, California, Monica Lewis and her husband Tom of Houston, Texas, and two grandchildren, Nicole and Andrew Lewis.

Visitation will be held Sunday, August 13th from 5pm - 8pm at Forest Park Funeral Home, 18000 I-45, The Woodlands, TX 77384. The Rosary will begin at 6pm. The funeral Mass will be Monday, August 14th, at 11:00am at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 7801 Bay Branch Dr., The Woodlands, TX 77382. Entombment will follow at Forest Park Funeral Home.
