Richard Maddox Metcalf, born April 9, 1926 in Normal, Illinois, to Myrtle Maddox and Harry Metcalf, passed away on September 2, 2017.

Richard married Betty Jo Blake of Pontiac, Illinois on June 13, 1948.

Richard served in the United State Navy as a reserve and a Sonar man in World War II and Korea.

Richard graduated from Illinois State University. He went on to receive a PHD in education at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana where he was a professor for many years.

Richard then moved to Shippenville, PA where he was instrumental in setting up the Communications Department of Clarion University of PA.

Richard had a passion for learning, for example - taking calculus classes at the age of 85. He also loved photography and music.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Jo Metcalf, currently living in The Woodlands, Texas. He is also survived by his children: Merilee Smith from Alaska, Blake Metcalf from Arizona, Maribeth Amsler from Pennsylvania, Becky Metcalf from Alaska, Amanda Cogley from Texas and Nathan Metcalf from California.

Richard Metcalf is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 4 great -grandchildren.

He leaves behind many that will miss him.
